Our Journey

At the behest of the Tanzanian Government, the green field project of Bagamoyo Sugar Limited (Bagamoyo Sugar), a unit of Bakhresa Group, was incorporated on 01 December 2016, to grow sugar cane in the nucleus estate and produce sugar at Makurunge, Bagamoyo District. The main objective of the project is not only reducing dependence on sugar imports and attaining self-sufficiency but also producing surplus sugar for export.

Bagamoyo Sugar Ltd is a subsidiary of the Bakhresa Group, which has a long history of successfully completing projects of varying complexities and magnitudes.

With the Group’s vision of increasing and sustaining people’s living standards by providing them with essential products and services of global quality at an affordable price, the Government’s offer represented a much-valued opportunity for us to humbly contribute to Tanzania becoming self-sufficient in sugar production.

Sugar production complements the Group’s existing product offering and can be distributed at a low cost by leveraging on our current brand, distribution, and logistics network.
